How to Apply

Montrose Classical Academy welcomes all students. Our enrollment process is designed to be transparent, equitable, and accessible to all families.

Application Process Overview

Step 1:

Complete the Enrollment Application

The enrollment window is now open. Submit a complete enrollment application through our online portal. Applications are accepted during our designated enrollment period each year.


Step 2:

Lottery (if necessary)

If applications exceed available seats, we conduct a random, transparent lottery in accordance with Colorado charter school law.


Step 3:

Enrollment Confirmation

Families of selected students will receive enrollment packets and must complete all required documentation by the specified deadline to secure their child's seat.

Important Dates & Deadlines

  • 2026-2027 School Year (Inaugural Year)
  • Enrollment Application Window: January 15 - March 15, 2026
  • Lottery Date (if needed): March 22, 2026
  • Enrollment Confirmation Deadline: April 15, 2026
  • First Day of School: August 17, 2026

Enrollment Preferences

Colorado law allows charter schools to provide enrollment preferences to certain groups. MCA provides preferences in the following order:
  1. Students residing within Montrose County School District boundaries
  2. Siblings of currently enrolled students
  3. Children of MCA staff members and board members (up to 20% of enrollment capacity)
  4. All other Colorado residents

Lottery Information

In the event that the number of applications received during the enrollment period exceeds the number of available seats, Montrose Classical Academy will conduct a random lottery in accordance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations.

Lottery Process:

  • The lottery will be conducted publicly with transparent procedures
  • All applicants will be assigned a random number
  • Students will be selected in random order within each preference category
  • Families will be notified of lottery results within 48 hours

Waitlist

Students not selected in the initial lottery will be placed on a waitlist in the order they were drawn. As seats become available throughout the year, families on the waitlist will be contacted in order and offered the opportunity to attend.
